Snap-On ACT-3120 Maintenance Items

This page is for any other owners of this machine who may happen to stumble onto this site (probably via a search engine). You'll need to replace a few parts as routine maintenance to keep the machine (and the cars being serviced!) in top shape.

Compressor Oil Change

According to Snap-On, the compressor oil should be changed every 3 months. I assume that they've gauged this interval on the assumption that the unit will be in commercial service. Snap-On offers this kit:

EAK0029C00AB, OIL CHG KIT ($121.17)

This kit consists of 1 quart of Suniso 3GS (150 viscosity) compressor oil, a bag of small o-rings, and a squeeze bottle to aid in filling the pump with oil (see photo on the right). They're pretty proud of this kit too, because it costs $121.17! You can source the components elsewhere.

Filler bottle:

You have to pour the oil into a pretty small nearly-horizontal fitting. I found that a tiny funnel stuck onto a 3" piece of a drinking straw (with the end slit to wedge into the pump fitting) worked fairly well. You'll spill some oil, but it's cheap now :)

Master Filter Kit

Rumor has it that most shops never bother to change the dryer in their recycling gear! That means water-contaminated R-12 in your system, which, if not absorbed by your dryer, will create acids in the system. The manual states to change the master filter after every 6th dumping of the suction bowl oil, or when the moisture indicator reaches 15ppm (pink for 75-degrees F). As always, Snap-On has a pricey kit with everything to do the job:

EAK0030C01AB, FILTER DRYER KIT ($94.05)

This kit consists of a filter, o-ring gasket, and 1/2 oz. of "Super Lube." Super Lube is a fairly standard item found at a variety of auto parts stores. The filter is a Parker 302V Liquid Line Filter Dryer and is available through a few HVAC shops.

O-ring

This part is a little more difficult to come by. The Snap-On part number for this is 4053002001. According to their site, it's out of stock at the moment (and I assume permanently).

Suction Bowl Wrench

Mine didn't come with one of these. Luckily, it's surprisingly cheap.

0001006701, FILTER WRENCH ($7.00)

It's really a Goldenrod 491 Fuel Filter Wrench, which is available elsewhere for a little less, but not much.
