Water Pump Installation
What a chore. The people who designed this engine should be shot for their placement of the water pump, because to replace it, you have to take off the intake manifold! The culprits here are the two hoses which run into the back of the water pump, so regardless of the age of those hoses, be sure to replace those with something that won't ever fail. There are a few guides for anyone else wanting some insight. This is an all-day messy task, so here are some random photos:
The front section of the intake manifold off, as well as some belts and hoses. It's all up-hill from here.
I ordered a water pump master kit with everything that one would possibly need to do this job and then some. Those blue hoses are industrial-strength silicone hoses which shouldn't fail for many many years - a very good thing since they run under the intake manifold!
It's shocking that this crusty thermostat worked at all.
Another shot of the engine before the real pain and suffering begins.
Be sure that you park your car in a place where it's fine to leave it should you need to quit. Luckily, I got it all back together before it got too dark.
